Cobra Kai continues the legacy of Karate Kid (1984), a classic of martial arts cinema. The series puts Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence face to face again, in a kind of reboot-continuation – as Creed is for Rocky. The first two seasons were produced by Sony Pictures Television and originally launched on YouTube; recently, they were made available on Netflix, which has already confirmed a third season – this time, the original streaming service.

Release date

The third season premiere of Cobra Kai is set for “January 2021”. Filming ended in September 2019 and, at the moment, the new episodes are in the post-production phase.

On October 2, Netflix revealed the debut date of the third season of Cobra Kai, along with a teaser that brings images and unpublished and shows the fate of Miguel, Robby, Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso.

On December 9, Netflix revealed the first trailer for the third season of Cobra Kai, which brings confirmation of the return of the villain Chozen and Kumiko, the ex-girlfriend of Daniel LaRusso, both from Karate Kid 2.


There is not much information revealed about the plot of the third season of Cobra Kai. Jon Hurwitz, co-creator of the series, confirmed that part of the new episodes was filmed in Okinawa, Japan, in the same setting as Karate Kid 2: The Moment of Truth Continues (1986) – although the film was shot in Oahu, Hawaii.

For the little that the trailer released by Netflix shows of the third season, the third year of the series will reveal a secret from Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), something that Daniel LaRusso and fans never knew or even suspected.

“The end of the second season is, in essence, a car accident,” defined William Zabka, Johnny Lawrence himself. “There are many pieces to be put together and cured. It takes a lot of maturing. In the third season, the characters recover after the violent high school fight between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do, which resulted in Miguel’s serious injury.

Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), eternal rivals of the original film and Cobra Kai, will return in the third season, as will Miguel (Xolo Maridueña). Johnny’s son Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) is also due to return, as is John Kreese (Martin Kove), who currently takes care of the Cobra Kai dojo after the shocking finale of season two.
