It’s Designated Survivor season 4 is happening, and if so, when will it release? In the political thriller series Designated Survivor, Kiefer Sutherland plays Tom Kirkman, a member of the presidential cabinet who suddenly becomes the commander-in-chief of the United States after a major attack.

Designated Survivor season 1 premiered in September 2016 on ABC, and the second season premiered a year later with 22 new episodes. However, ABC canceled Designated Survivor in May 2018, but Netflix later acquired the series and officially ordered it. Designated Survivor Season 3 that following September.

Although Designated Survivor season 4 isn’t happening, what would the story be about if it continued? Designated Survivor season 3 ends with the reelection of President Kirkman, but he’s not necessarily thrilled about the journey. Tom’s special adviser Emily (Italia Ricci) reveals inside information that could benefit the public image of his longtime nemesis and his opponent, Cornelius Moss. Tom knows what he should do, but chooses to bury a secret for the greater good. A lot of Designated Survivor season 3 finale shows Tom discussing ethics with a psychiatrist while waiting for the election results. Essentially, Tom experiences an identity crisis and recognizes that he is transforming into a manipulative politician. Netflix’s Designated Survivor season 4 surely would have focused on Tom’s moral compass, the highest stakes, and the biggest consequences. But whether or not it always happens that remains to be seen; it just won’t be on Netflix.
