Netflix keeps releasing new content, even in the last days of 2020, and its newest production goes by the name of Alice in Borderland.
This is a series based on the Japanese suspense manga of the same name. The original title was written and illustrated by Haro Aso. The live-action series produced by Netflix, and directed by Shinsuke Satō, follows a video game fan and his two friends, who appear in a parallel reality in Tokyo. There, they must overcome a series of sadistic games to stay alive.
But after marathoning, the 8 episodes of the first season, are fans curious to know what’s next? Check out everything we know.
Based on the idea that Netflix launched the series in the last days of 2020, the renewal should happen only in 2021. So, we don’t expect to see the second season of Alice in Borderland before the end of 2021. Our best guess is that it should debut at beginning of 2022.
The cast of the series is directed by Kento Yamazaki, who plays Ryohei Arisu, a young man obsessed with video games who tends to cause problems with his friends. Also, Keita Machida and Yuki Morinaga play Arisu’s friends, Daikichi Karube and Chota Segawa. Likewise, the three encounter a mysterious woman, Yuzuha Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya), who has been sailing the desert world independently.
Other actors that appear in the series are Nijiro Murakami (Chishiya), Aya Asahina (Kuina), Tsuyoshi Abe (Kuzuryu), Mizuki Yoshida (Asahi) as well as Riisa Naka (Mira).
If there is a 2nd season, likely, we will not see many of them again, given the events of the season. However, we will certainly see Kento Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya, Nijiro Murakami, Aya Asahina and Riisa Naka again.
Also, the series is expected to announce new names for the second season.
Spoilers: what will happen?
Arisu’s talent for problem-solving keeps him afloat during the first season. He joins Usagi, a climber with superior athletic skills.
Thus, the first season is a distorted festival of betrayals and mind games. So, we see people in the alternative world doing things they would never do in the real world.
Arisu is convinced that the only way to end the deadly game is to find the game master responsible for the chaos. At the end of the eighth and final episode of season 1, the series reveals that Momoka and Asahi were croupiers in the game who had to pretend to be players.
As people died in each game, it gave them a gas to live longer. The guilt becomes unbearable and, finally, Momoka kills herself while Asahi seals her destiny.
We also see that the four survivors of the game are Arisu, Usagi, Chishiya and Kuina. Mira appears on the screen to inform the “winners” that more games are coming and that the “next stage” will start at noon the next day. Seeing how the first season ends, in which it suggests more games, then more episodes are coming.
If there is a second season, we will see the four survivors battle it out in a new game with different rules.
