Sad news for fans of Saved by the Bell. Less than a month after confirming that he had been diagnosed with cancer, actor Dustin Diamond, who played Screech in the famous fiction, has just passed away at 44 years of age.

This has just been confirmed by his agent, who has sent a statement to the main US media announcing the terrible news. “Only three weeks ago Dustin was diagnosed with carcinoma, a brutal type of cancer. In that time, the disease managed to spread rapidly throughout his system. The only mercy he showed was his quick and sharp execution. Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to be in pain. For that we are grateful ”, are the words sent.

It is undoubtedly a blow to the actor’s fans, who will always have a special place in the hearts of viewers of the iconic teenage fiction broadcast in the 90s for his portrayal of the clumsy and funny Screech, best friend and funny antagonist of the handsome group officer, Zack Morris.

His character was so pervasive that he was the only one to follow in the series when the original cast got too old to continue in high school and a new group of actors entered it without ever succeeding in matching the success of the previous one.

Interestingly, when the show was canceled, Diamond went into a self-destructive spiral that led him to flirt with drugs, star in a pornographic video, and even write a book called Behind the Bell in which he counted all the dirty laundry in the series.

A betrayal that his co-stars never forgave him, hence he was the only one who did not return to the reboot that is currently being broadcast and who has just announced a second season in which, surely, he will be paid some kind of tribute now who has passed away.

At least that is what possibly some of his former teammates ask, who forgot their past grudges when Dustin announced his illness to show him all their support in these difficult times that have ended in the worst possible way

It was the case, for example, of Mario Lopez, who played Slater and who published a photo of both of them on his official Instagram account in which he revealed that he had recently reconnected with Dustin. He has been the first to regret the news by publishing another image of both taken recently. “Dustin, you will be sorely missed. The fragility of this life is something we should never take for granted. I will continue to pray for your family,” he writes. Rest in peace.
