Following a year of waiting, Netflix gave us the perfect late-Christmas pressie last year after it fell season two of its highly-bingeable, emotional thriller You on Boxing Day. Exactly like in 2018 when the first batch of episodes seemed declared, chain-watching the series was the ideal accompaniment to your festive food coma.
This time around, frightening, serial-killer anti-hero Joe (Penn Badgley) had transferred into Los Angeles and assumed the new (stolen) identity of Will Bettleheim. He is running away from the events of season one where he murdered his girlfriend Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and framed her therapist for the murder. There’s also the jolt reappearance of ex-girlfriend Candace (Ambyr Childers), formerly assumed dead. Later in LA, Joe falls for Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) — a seemingly wholesome kitchen manager with a secret of her own — in a store he works in; but it is not long until our protagonist gets tangled in a new web of lies.
If like us, you blasted throughout the next season even faster than the original, you are going to be hoping for more episodes soon. Here’s everything we understand about You season 3.
You season 3 release date: expect it in 2021
Netflix has not affirmed an exact You season 3 launch date, but if news of the renewal jumped on TVLine, it had been revealed that ten new episodes are still arriving in 2021. The official Twitter page for the series published a tongue-in-cheek video in early January, simply stating”New Year, New You”, a witty play about the pseudo-self-improvement comment in You’s second season.
You season 3 resumed filming in November 2020, however, which can be a good sign we’ll be seeing it :

While we have not heard much about all things You season, we do know that Caroline Kepnes, the author behind the novels from which the show is inspired, has completed the third book in the series. So much so that, on Twitter she states she”saw possible covers” in August. Therefore, if you’re desperate for more You before season 3, then keep a lookout for this.
You season 3 cast: 13 new characters have been added
In November 2020 we got a huge number of new cast announcements here’s the heart cast, such as the 13 new titles, the new cast members they’ll combine, as well as the coming faces:
- Penn Badgely: Joe
- Victoria Pedretti: Enjoy

Earlier this season we got confirmation of 2 returning cast members: Badgley will return as Joe and Victoria Pedretti as Love. The continued presence of Love in Joe’s life was a pretty sure thing given how period two finished, with the couple in a pretty unholy union (more about what that twist means for season 3 below). Hopefully, we’ll see the return of this extended cast of Quinn family and friends from season 2 too.
We will also be getting a new face in the form of Scott Speedman (Animal Kingdom, Underworld. According to Deadline, “Speedman will perform Matthew, a powerful CEO, husband, and uncommunicative father. He is reserved, at times cryptic, and has a propensity to be withdrawn, all of which masks a deep well of emotion ”
Speedman joins another new cast members: Travis Van Winkle and Shalita Grant. Grant would be to play Sherry, a mean girl who feels threatened by Love, who puts on a front as a friendly’Momfluencer’. Van Winkle will be Cary, a wealthy, charming”Master of Self-Optimization”. With Cary and Matthew around, Joe has some more competition in the qualified mentor department.
You season three plot: what will happen?
The end of season two was spectacular, and in among the chaos we discovered that Love is pregnant with Joe’s kid. Then we saw the couple move into a new house in a Los Angeles suburb. In the past three, could we see them trying to adjust to family life with a new sprog on the way? Maybe it’s time Joe turned over a new leaf…
Towards the end of season two, we found out more about Love’s mum, and showrunner Patrick Gamble told Entertainment Weekly that may last at a further season: “The stakes are fairly high. I have numerous questions about Love’s mother who is incredibly at the film at the end of the season, like how much she knows about her kids. We wrote [the finale] trusting that we’ll get the opportunity to tell more story as we’re excited with the seeds planted at the end of the season .”
