If in Cobra Kai, Miguel’s anonymous father (Xolo Maridueña) appears in the San Fernando Valley, the Diaz family conflict will not only strengthen the overall story but will also add an extra layer of conflict for Johnny.
Now that Rubio has a bigger role in season 4, there is a great opportunity to explore his character’s past, much like Cobra Kai did with John Kreese (Martin Kove) in season 3.
If Cobra Kai season 4 features Miguel’s father in flashback sequences, then it will benefit the romance between Johnny and Carmen. For example, the Diaz family will presumably open up to Johnny, and vice versa, which will strengthen their bond.
But, the series still needs to address the fate of Miguel’s father and whether or not he is a threat to the safety of the family. As of now, it’s the unknown that’s looming over the subplot, and the conflict can’t be resolved through flashbacks.
If Miguel’s father emerges in the current scenario of season 4. The series could first subtly reveal the character through flashback sequences to set up the big reveal.
Assuming the producers want to stay focused on the core themes of karate, family, and personal growth, Cobra Kai season 4 is unlikely to feature a narco subplot involving Carmen’s husband.
Most likely, Season 4 will identify Miguel’s father and then remove him as a potential threat. Or that Carmen will find out that he was murdered while collaborating with cartel members.
Whatever the case, Johnny will be there to provide emotional support in Cobra Kai season 4, and his continued evolution as an individual will reconnect him with his biological son, Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan).
