Tom Holland may not have been Spider-Man
One of the most beloved actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Tom Holland, and it’s shocking to find that he risked not getting the role of Spider-Man. The news was revealed by the Russo brothers, directors of the last two Avengers. According to what they said, the actor was not particularly liked by Sony, who did not want him in the project dedicated to Spider-Man.
These are the words of Joe Russo during an interview with The Playlist. Although Sony had a good relationship with Kevin Feige, even he couldn’t convince the company to choose Tom Holland as Spider-Man.
Even Anthony Russo talked about the situation, explaining that the main problem was the age of Tom Holland.
Captain America Civil War, the first film with Tom Holland as Spider-Man, debuted in 2016. The actor, at the time of filming, was therefore between 18 and 19 years old. Before him, as Spider-Man there were Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. When Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man came out, Tobey was playing a 16-year-old, being 27. The Amazing Spider-Man is a 2012 film, and Andrew Garfield played a high school student, despite being 29 years old.
But now is the time to finally see the three Spider-Man all together?
Spider-Man No Way Home and the multiverse
The filming of the third chapter dedicated to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been taking place for some months now. In this regard, several rumors have followed, in particular on the alleged return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Kirsten Dunst as their characters from the other Spider-Man films. This unconfirmed news would pave the way for the multiverse theory, which appears to be a central element of Phase 4 of the MCU. Variety wanted to ask Tom Holland for more information on the return of these two actors.
However Tom Holland said he never met Kirsten Dunst, but I once spoke to Andrew Garfield at BAFTAs. At several parties in LA I met Tobey Maguire, he has always been nice too. They seem to me to be two lovely people, very nice. I hope he likes our movies and our Spider-Man. Are they in the third movie? Ah, I don’t know. If I am there, no one has told me.
It, therefore, appears that Tom Holland has confirmed that the two actors will not appear in Spider-Man No Way Home. Confirmed in the cast, however, are Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx, two actors of the previous sagas dedicated to Spider-Man. Other rumors would also confirm the presence of Willem Dafoe, and the final scene of Spider-Man Far From Home showed the face of JK Simmons. It is a series of actors who have already starred in past Spider-Man films, and by now it seems that the path of the multiverse will be furrowed. All that remains is to wait to find out if there will also be Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield with Tom Holland insider-Man No Way Home.
