Extinct Movie 2021

So far, 2021 has produced a number of fantastic animated films. “Luca,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” and “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” brought thrilling adventures, stunning action, and much-needed chuckles in a year that was terrible for many. Furthermore, some of the stories in this year’s animated feature lineup addressed a wide range of topics, from robot revolts to a superhero squirrel and his human best buddy saving the day.

“Extinct,” a time travel adventure starring a couple of characters who seem like the living, breathing, and furry incarnation of Homer Simpson’s favourite food, could be a new addition to our list of 2021 animation greats. “Extinct,” which was first revealed in September 2019 (via Deadline), is a multinational partnership between production studios in the United States, China, and Canada. The fun animated film also features a brilliant and comedic voice cast, as well as a writer and co-director team with huge animated TV comedy chops.

Here’s all we know about “Extinct” so far.

Extinct (2021) : Release Date

“Extinct” has the distinction of being released in some regions of the world but not others, thanks to a multi-national collaboration between studios in China, Canada, and the United States. On August 20, 2021, the film was released in the United Kingdom on Sky Cinema’s Sky Go service (via The Guardian). Although Sony Pictures is releasing the film in the United States, no official release date has been set. IMDb, for example, lists an October 16, 2021 release date in the United States. This may still be the case, especially since the film has already been released in other countries.

Extinct (2021) : Cast

The voice cast for “Extinct” includes a number of well-known actors. According to Variety, the film stars Adam DeVine, Rachel Bloom, and Ken Jeong, all of whom have already been seen in the film’s Sky TV trailer (via YouTube). DeVine plays Flummel Ed, a male Flummel, while Bloom plays Ed’s sister, Flummel Op, a female Flummel. In the trailer, Jeong appears as Clarence, a red-sweater-wearing Pomeranian. However, because “Extinct” has Ed and Op journeying across time and meeting a variety of supernatural creatures and animals, the three performers are only the tip of the iceberg in terms of voice talent. According to the IMDb website for “Extinct,” the cast includes Zazie Beetz, Jim Jefferies, Alex Borstein, Reggie Watts, and Catherine O’Hara. Also, via EDM.com, Steve Aoki lends his voice to “Extinct” as a DJ Flummel named Vinny.

While “Extinct” is a family film, the film’s creative crew, all of whom worked on “The Simpsons,” should deliver plenty of chuckles for all ages. The show’s authors included screenwriters Joel H. Cohen, John Frink, and Rob LaZebnik. David Silverman and Raymond S. Persi, the co-directors of “Extinct,” have directed several episodes of “The Simpsons,” and Silverman helmed the feature-length film “The Simpsons” in 2007.

Extinct (2021) : Plot

Extinct” explores the concept of time travel through the eyes of twins Op and Ed, who are both eccentric. Op and Ed are members of a race of donut-shaped animals known as Flummels who dwell on the Galapagos Islands in 1835, according to Timeless Films, which distributed the film in the United Kingdom. The two wind up in modern-day Shanghai during their species’ annual Flower Festival. They meet a dog named Clarence there, who helps them adjust to life in the contemporary world. Op and Ed, on the other hand, eventually learn that their race has vanished. Because Clarence’s owner is a scientist who has dabbled with time travel, the three set off on an expedition to travel back in time and save the Flummel siblings’ species from extinction.

Although “Extinct” is unlikely to go as far as a certain TARDIS-traveling doctor in terms of “timey-wimey” pranks, the two will come across some strange creatures and points in time. The mystery reason for the Flummels’ extinction will likewise be explored in “Extinct.” We’ll have to wait and see if Op and Ed have what it takes to save their race, but at the very least, their quest will be entertaining.
