Season 2 of American Rust Has a Plot.

Season 1 concluded on so many cliffhangers that it was clear where the show could have gone next, as we pointed out in our post about whether “American Rust” would get a second season. Del now finds himself covering up a triple homicide that he committed after spending Season 1 investigating Billy for the killing of Pete Novick (Jim True-Frost), a cop-turned-drug dealer.

In case you missed it, in self-defense, Del was forced to kill two of Novick’s associates as well as their 87-year-old relative. At the end of Season 1, Del’s deputy, Steve Park, doubted his involvement in the murders.

With these events in mind, viewers were probably hoping for the following plot points to be included in Season 2: With Steve Park as Del, Del discovers that Novick’s real killer was Billy’s friend Isaac English, who murdered Novick to protect Billy, towards the end of Season 2. Del chose to keep Isaac’s participation a secret.

American Rust’s Season 1 Finale Is an Explanation

While Harris juggles his personal and professional lives, Isaac, Billy’s friend and the man who killed Novick while defending Billy, quits his house, planning to travel to California and begin school as he had always planned, but instead returns. Lee (Julia Mayorga), Isaac’s sister, returns to Buell to look after her father following Isaac’s absence.

When she comes to town, her husband finds out she’s been having an affair with Billy, her high school girlfriend.

Grace organizes a unionization effort among her Gelsey Dressmakers coworkers, but the employees vote against it because they are afraid of the changes. Grace comes to the conclusion that following the rules is no longer a viable choice.

In the season finale, “Denmark,” Bobby Jesus kills one of his dealers in an attempt to remove the link between himself and the smuggler who was imprisoned when Buell’s young sports star overdosed. Billy learns that he would be confronted by the general public of Aryans soon. Later, he tells one of the guards that if something happens to him, he should contact Lee because he has kept his word.
