Another Emmy nomination came in 2007, and in 2008, Geary won his sixth award for Outstanding Lead Actor, breaking the previous record of most wins by a single actor. As of 2012, Geary had set a record with his seventh win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, following his final nomination in 2009.

UHF is a striking exception to his string of dramatic roles, in which he plays a studio engineer/scientist. In 1987, he co-starred in Disorderlies as a member of the hip-hop group The Fat Boys.

His co-star Genie Francis appeared with him in an episode of Roseanne in 1994.
