Her full name is Sheryl Kara Sandberg; she was born on August 28, 1969, in New York City, and is an American businesswoman and philanthropist. Sandberg is now Meta Platforms’ COO, a post from which she stated on June 1, 2022, that she will be leaving at the end of the current fiscal year.

Along with being a founder of LeanIn.Org, When she was promoted to COO in 2008, she became Facebook’s second-highest official. She was voted to Facebook’s board of directors in June 2012, making her the first female board member of the social media company. Sandberg was credited with making the company profitable as the head of the company’s advertising business.

Sandberg served as Google’s vice president of worldwide online sales and operations before to joining Facebook as COO. She was also a member of Google.org, the company’s philanthropic arm. Sandberg had previously served as the chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers in the Obama administration.

This year she was included in Time’s list of the world’s most important people. Since she holds shares in Facebook and other firms, Sandberg is on Forbes Magazine’s 2021 billionaires list with a net worth of US$1.7 billion. During the fall of 2022, she revealed that she would be stepping down as Meta’s COO but that she would stay on the company’s board.

Adolescence and Schooling

Adele (née Einhorn) and Joel Sandberg were the parents of Sandberg, who was born in 1969 in Washington, D.C., and the oldest of three children. An ophthalmologist by trade, her mother taught French in college.

When sheryl sandberg was two years old, her family relocated to North Miami Beach, Florida. It was in 1987 that she graduated from North Miami Beach High School, where she was placed ninth in her graduating class. As a sophomore, she was elected to the National Honor Society and served on the executive board of the senior class. In the 1980s, while still a high school student, Sandberg taught aerobics.

In 1987, Sandberg enrolled in Harvard University. She received the John H. Williams Prize for the best graduating economics student in 1991, with honors from Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude.

She co-founded a group called Women in Economics and Government while attending Harvard. Her thesis advisor and mentor, Professor Lawrence Summers, was also introduced to her by him.

As a research assistant at the World Bank, Summers hired her to work on health programs in India dealing with leprosy, AIDS, and blindness for around one year.

She enrolled in the Harvard Business School in 1993 and graduated with honours in 1995 with an MBA. As a freshman at a business school, she was awarded a fellowship.

Personal Issues

When Sandberg tied the knot with Brian Kraff in 1993, she and Kraff filed for divorce the following year. He was an executive at Yahoo! and then CEO of SurveyMonkey when she married him in 2004, and they have two sons together.

A son and a daughter were born to the couple. Sandberg and Goldberg often talked about how they wanted to have a joint income and joint parenting arrangement. Sandberg also addressed the topic of single-parenthood in the United States, which has a significant impact on the country’s economic and professional development.

Dave Goldberg died abruptly on May 1, 2015, and his death was first attributed to a head injury he had while on vacation in Mexico. According to Sandberg, her husband’s death was caused by an arrhythmia, not a treadmill fall.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick and Sandberg, who had been dating for three years, parted in May 2019. She announced her engagement to Kelton Global CEO Tom Bernthal on Facebook on February 3, 2020.

Sandberg announced her resignation as COO in a Facebook post, saying she wanted to devote more time to her foundation, humanitarian endeavors, and family. Upon Sandberg’s departure in the fall, Meta’s head of expansion, Javier Olivan, will assume the post of CEO.

As a result of years of speculation, Sandberg went to of her way to underline the strength of her cooperation with Zuckerberg in her farewell email to the Meta team. “I never had to turn to Mark since he was already there in the vital periods of my life, in the highest highs and in the deepest lows,” she wrote.

On Sandberg’s departure, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg gushed about her “knowledge and expertise,” and highlighted that she will continue on the board of directors “so we can benefit.”

For now, Sandberg says she has no plans to enter politics or take on another corporate position. But she’s also shrugging off the many scandals that come with Meta, and possibly offering herself fresh prospects for reinvention by leaving it behind.
