Merle Johnson Jr., better known as Troy Donahue, was an American actor and singer who appeared in films and television. He died on September 2, 2001. In the 1950s and 1960s, he was a popular sex symbol.

Personal Issues

Sean, Donahue’s only kid, was born after his fourth marriage ended in divorce. Before Suzanne Pleshette became his first wife, he had worked with her on two films. Nine months after their Beverly Hills wedding on January 5, 1964, they divorced.

Donahue tied the knot with actress Valerie Allen in Dublin, Ireland, on October 21st, 1996. She filed for divorce in April 1968, citing him of cruelty, and they divorced in November 1968. They separated in April 1967, and they divorced in November 1968.

Alma Sharpe was Donahue’s third wife and executive secretary. In Roanoke, Virginia, they exchanged vows on November 15, 1969. According to the man, “I couldn’t care for myself, and I knew this guy would take me in.” In 1972, they called it quits.

In his fourth and final marriage, Donahue married Vicki Taylor, a wealthy estate developer. Coupled in 1979, they split in 1981. With Zheng Cao, a mezzo-soprano, he spent his final years in Santa Monica, California, engaged and living together.

In 1969, Troy Donahue had a son, Sean, with a lady he briefly dated. When he ran into the woman again in the 1980s, he learned that she had a son. In 1984, he recalled:

When she came up and introduced herself, I realised we’d met up a few times in 1969 in Los Angeles. There is nothing significant going on. Fun and games only. She stated, “I’m delighted to have met you. I’ve been meaning to tell you something for a long time.

Troy, take a look over there.” Across the room, I spotted a 13-year-old girl who looked just like me when I was that age. “Sean, this is your son,” she continued, pointing to her son. Since he’s grown up with the knowledge that you’re his father, I see him on a semi-regular basis.

Donahue spent 15 days in jail for speeding in 1958. Lili Kardell, his former fiancée, filed a lawsuit against him in 1961, saying he had assaulted her without cause.
