The Last of Us is an upcoming HBO show about a world after the end of the world. In the 2013 video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog, the series will follow Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie across the post-apocalyptic United States.
Tommy Joel’s younger brother and a former soldier will also appear in it. The television series, rumored to be the biggest in Canadian history, was shot in Calgary, Alberta, between July 2021 and June 2022.
Produced jointly by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, The Mighty Mint, and Word Games, it is the first HBO show to be based on a video game.
Neil Druckmann, who also wrote and directed the game, will pen 10 of the episodes for the first season. The score will be written by the original game’s composer Gustavo Santaolalla, while the pilot episode will be directed by Kantemir Balagov.
The Last of Us Cast Members and Characters
Joel, a grizzled survivor who is haunted by his past experience, is portrayed by Pedro Pascal. A small girl must be smuggled out of a quarantine area and eventually across the country by Joel.
After The Mandalorian’s second season concluded, Pascal became ready for a new project. Several major networks made his proposals, but he ultimately chose The Last of Us.
According to reports, Pascal is one of the most paid American television actors, making $600,000 every episode. He saw his nephew play the first few minutes of the game because he lacked the skills to play it himself. 
He thought Joel was “very outstanding,” but he didn’t want to imitate the games too closely, so he decided to “establish a healthy distance” and let the showrunners select the character.
Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, is a 14-year-old girl who exhibits rebellion and rage but really craves family and belonging. She may hold the secret to developing a vaccination because she is resistant to the Cordyceps brain illness.
The character is a lesbian in accordance with the games. Ramsey learned about her casting when a different project was being produced. The show seems “like the largest thing I have ever done,” she claimed.
Perry, a rebel in a quarantine zone, is played by Jeffrey Pierce. Tommy was formerly portrayed by Pierce in the video games. According to Pierce, the show’s original character Perry “had significant consequences for things that actually occur in the game.
Tess, a seasoned survivor, and Joel’s business partner is portrayed by Anna Torv. Tess is portrayed by Annie Wersching in the first game.
What About The Last of Us Production?
A feature film developed by the game’s writer and creative director Neil Druckmann and produced by Sam Raimi went into development hell, and Sony scrapped an animated short film adaptation by Oddfellows after Naughty Dog’s video game The Last of Us was released in 2013.
The Last of Us Part II and its events may be included in the HBO television adaptation, which was announced in March 2020 as being in the planning stages.

Along with Druckmann, Craig Mazin was named to collaborate on the writing and executive producer of the series. Additionally, television producer Carolyn Strauss and Naughty Dog president Evan Wells were named as co-executive producers.
Gustavo Santaolalla, who worked on the games, was named as the show’s composer. It was revealed that the program was a cooperative effort between Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Naughty Dog.
This is the first program that PlayStation Productions has ever created. Under the banner of Bear and Pear Productions, the program is made. 
The Last of Us Filming in 2021
A week later than expected, on July 12, 2021, the series’ filming in Calgary, Alberta, officially started. The cast and crew were isolated for two weeks after arriving in Canada due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
On the episodes starring Balagov and Druckmann, Ksenia Sereda, a regular partner of Balagov’s, served as cinematographer. Hoar and Eben Bolter collaborated frequently, and Christine A. Maier worked with bani.
Cast and crew members began arriving in Calgary in June; on July 2, Luna released the first picture from the set of himself with Balagov, Pascal, Parker, and Sereda.

The production company requested permission from the High River council on July 12, 2021, to film there between July and October in exchange for the town receiving $100,000 in Canadian funds.
The community received an additional CA$15,000 from the production as compensation for the destruction of three trees nearby.
After months of rehearsals and preparations, including polling businesses and locals, filming in High River took place in the evenings of July 13–19 before shifting to Fort Macleod from July 19–24. Several storefronts were modified to fit the program.
The game’s prologue takes place in Austin, Texas, and the set included police cars from that city. On the evening of July 29, production moved back to High River before returning to Calgary in August. 
The Last of Us Music
Santaolalla will write the series’ musical score. Latino viewers “will recognize touches,” according to Santaolalla, of his music.

He drew on his background in film and television, having written the themes and several tunes for the shows Making a Murderer and Jane the Virgin.
The Last of Us TV show Release Date
HBO has now stated that we shouldn’t anticipate The Last of Us to touch our screens until 2023, even if we don’t yet have a specific release date.
After 13 months of shooting that started in April 2021 and turned Calgary, Alberta into a dystopian nightmare, filming in Canada ended in June 2022. This means that the 2023 date is still on track.
