Steven Alexander Wright, an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and film producer, was born on December 6, 1955.

He is renowned for his distinctively sluggish voice, slow, deadpan delivery, and sardonic, philosophical, and occasionally absurd jokes, paraprosdokians, non-sequiturs, anti-humour, and one-liners with staged scenarios.

In its 2017 list of the 50 Greatest Stand-up Comics, Wright was listed as the 15th Greatest Comedian.

His achievements include two Primetime Emmy nods as a producer of Louie 2010–15 and the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for appearing in, writing, and producing the short film The Appointments of Dennis Jennings 1988.

He is well-known for playing the supporting part of Leon in the tragicomic online series Horace and Pete, winner of a Peabody Award.

Wright was one of four children born to Lucille “Dolly” and Alexander K. Wright at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

He spent his childhood in Burlington, Massachusetts. His upbringing was Catholic. His father was of Scottish ancestry, while his mother was Italian-American.

During the Apollo spacecraft programme, Wright’s father was an electronics specialist who “tested a lot of stuff” for NASA. He drove trucks when that programme was over.
