Amazon Will No Longer Allow Users to Buy Kindle Books: Know More About It!

Amazon will no longer allow users to buy Kindle books on Android

The Kindle app no longer allows customers to rent or buy books or pay for Kindle Unlimited subscriptions. To get access to digital content, users must first pay for it on a web browser and then use their app’s digital library to access the books.

“To remain in compliance with updated Google Play Store policies,” the email from Amazon stated, the change was required.

This app will no longer allow users to purchase or rent Kindle books or subscribe to Kindle Unlimited in order to comply with Google’s updated Play Store policies.

Google had set a deadline of one day before the notification was sent to remind people of the policy. To charge for “in-app features and services,” which include digital content as well as subscription services, upgraded versions of a free app, and cloud services like data storage, the Android maker stated in 2020 that apps must use the Google Play billing system. Afterward, the company extended the deadline to June 1, 2022.

The Play Store billing system includes a 15 percent Google cut. In January, the fee was reduced from 30% to 20%. Physical goods like groceries and clothing, peer-to-peer payments, or app-based gambling do not use the billing system.

On Wednesday, non-compliant apps will be removed from the Google Play Store. Version 8.58 of the Amazon Kindle app for Android includes the fix. In-app purchases and rentals are not available in this app.

In addition to removing digital purchasing options from its Shopping and Prime Video apps, the company has reportedly disabled in-app purchases on its Audible and Music apps.

Users of the Kindle app on the iPhone are already familiar with this arrangement. E-reader makers had to remove links in their iOS apps in 2011, even if the links redirected users to a website, to comply with Apple’s guidelines.
