Julia Alexandra Hough was born on July 20, 1988, in Orem, Utah, USA.

Marianne and Bruce Hough are the parents of her five siblings. Dancers, all four of her paternal grandparents. At the Center Stage Performing Arts Studio in Orem, Hough received her first formal training. At the age of nine, she began competing in competitive dance.

Career As A Dancer

Before becoming a professional dancer on “Dancing with the Stars,” Julianne Hough appeared on ABC’s “Show Me the Money” in 2006 as a “Million Dollar Dancer.” With Olympic gold medalist Apolo Ohno and Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, she won season four and season five of the show.

Hough was nominated for an Emmy in 2008 for her choreography of the film Mambo. They were eliminated in week four of their re-appearance on the show in season six with radio host Adam Carolla as their partner. Cody Linley, star of Hannah Montana, began dating Hough in August of that year.

She was rushed to the hospital during their jitterbug performance in October 2008, suffering from severe stomach pains. When her appendix had to be removed, she couldn’t perform on “Dancing with the Stars” for several weeks while she recovered. As a substitute, Edyta Sliwinska took her place.

Brooks Laich, a professional ice hockey player, proposed to her in December 2013. In August 2015, they announced their engagement, and on July 8, 2017, they were married. Their separation was announced in a joint statement issued in May 2020.
