On January 7, 1964, he was born in Long Beach, California, USA. His father was Italian, and his mother was of German and Polish background. Carmine Coppola and Italia Pennino were his paternal grandparents, and his paternal great-grandparents were immigrants from Bernalda, Basilicata.

He is a nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola and actress Talia Shire through his father, as well as a cousin of directors Roman Coppola and Sofia Coppola, film producer Gian-Carlo Coppola, and actors Robert and Jason Schwartzman.

Nicolas Cage also has two siblings with whom he spent much of his childhood. He attended Beverly Hills High School, which has a reputation for producing numerous artists. He attended the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television and had an early interest in acting.

His first acting experience outside of film was in a school performance of Golden Boy. He stated that he began acting because he “desired to become James Dean. I thought, “That’s exactly what I want to accomplish.”Although Cage participated in some of his uncle’s films early in his career, he changed his name to Nicolas Cage to escape the appearance of nepotism as Coppola’s nephew. His name was inspired by Marvel Comics superhero Luke Cage as well as composer John Cage.

Cage began dating actress Christina Fulton in 1988; they had a kid together, Weston Coppola Cage (born December 26, 1990). Weston was a member of two black metal bands and acted as a helicopter technician in his father’s film Lord of War.

They separated in January of 2016. Cage married Erika Koike in March 2019 in Las Vegas, only to file for an annulment four days later. Three months later, his divorce from Koike was granted. On February 16, 2021, Cage wed his Japanese girlfriend Riko Shibata. In January 2022, they revealed they were expecting their third child. In April, it was confirmed that the baby will be a girl named Lennon Augie.

Career

Nicolas Cage’s enthusiasm for acting began at a very young age. He was a fan of James Dean, whose films Rebel Without a Cause and East of Eden inspired Nicolas to become an actor. After convincing his parents, he began taking acting classes and he made his first appearance on screen in 1981’s Rumble Fish movie.

He made numerous film and television appearances, but his role in Leaving Las Vegas helped him become quite well-known. 14 years after his debut, in 1995, that movie was released. He has put in a lot of effort, yet it has not been in vain.
