Make sure all of your photo albums are accessible by checking the relevant boxes in settings for features like Google Photos. To proceed, select the Next Step button.

In the following form, you’ll be asked what kind of data delivery you prefer. If you don’t want your files stored in Google Drive, you can have them sent to Dropbox, OneDrive, or Box instead, or you can have a download link sent to your email inbox.

As a final step, select Create export and then wait. Google claims that gathering all of your data can take several hours or even days. When Google has finished setting up the files, you will receive an email notification.

Now that you have a backup of your information, you can permanently close your account. Sign in to the Google Account you want to delete, then click “Data & personalization” on the left side of the page.

Locate the link labeled “Delete a service or your account” in the “Download or delete your data” section. Select “Delete your account” afterward.

To access your account again, please log in. Google will provide you with the choice to save your data and will detail the services you’ll lose access to along with the amount of information saved in each.

If I were to deactivate my account, for instance, the 602 contacts I’ve saved in Google Contacts would be wiped along with it.

If you’re sure you’ve saved everything you need, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Delete Account option after checking the two boxes confirming your decision.

If you’re more concerned about the information Google has stored on you than you are about keeping your Google account active, you can choose to delete only that information.
