Apple rolls out watchOS 9: Check supported devices, new features, and more

For iPhone users, Apple’s Watch is the gold standard in activity monitors. However, Apple’s health software has traditionally been weak, so that’s the only real drawback (besides battery life).

Users of the Apple Watch often export their data to a more powerful and user-friendly application like Strava or Nike Run Club. New fitness features in WatchOS 9 may change that.

The Apple Watch has the potential to become the best running watch and finest watch for endurance athletes if its stride length and vertical oscillation tracking functions actually work as intended.

Plus, the new Series 8 has a tonne of other cool upgrades, like crash detection and a fertility tracker that uses your body temperature to predict if you’ll conceive. How to Install WatchOS 9

The newest version of WatchOS is compatible with both the iPhone and the Apple Watch, allowing for easy installation.

The minimum requirements for either approach are a 50 percent charge on your Apple Watch, a Wi-Fi-enabled iPhone running iOS 16, and a connection to a power source (at least). You’ll also need to keep your iPhone and watch close together to maintain communication.

Launch the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, then select the My Watch tab to access the update menu. Then, go to Settings and select the option to download and install software updates.

After that, your Apple Watch will display a progress wheel as an indication that the update is downloading. If you want to update your Apple Watch without using iTunes, you’ll need to have it linked to Wi-Fi. Then, from your wrist, select Settings > General > Software Update > Install.

Make sure you won’t need to use your smartwatch for at least an hour while it’s updating to WatchOS 9. It’s possible to update your Apple Watch while you sleep if you find that you really need it. Select Update Tonight when you get a notification that the new operating system is ready to download.
