Carles Puyol, a legend at Barcelona and a former teammate of the 41-year-on old’s Spain national team, was among many who showed their support following the shocking announcement. Casillas, who retired in 2020 after experiencing a heart collapse while training with his final club Porto, is regarded as one of the sport’s all-time greats between the posts.
After Spain’s World Cup victory,Iker Casillas and his ex-wife were seen kissing on live television during a postgame interview. The couple had been married for five years and had supported each other through several health crises.
After retiring from football due to a heart attack, former Spanish international Casillas wrote an emotional statement on Instagram, in which he and his wife Sara expressed their pride in their family and the love they’d enjoyed over the years.
“Today, our love as a couple goes in new directions, but they aren’t far away, because we’ll keep working together at the wonderful job of raising our children with all the dedication we’ve shown thus far.
This is an informed choice that we have made together.
The 41-year-old, who has two sons, Martin, 9, and Lucas, 6, with his wife Sara, continued: “The respect, affection, and friendship will remain for life.
Our top objective is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children to develop in by working together to ensure their happiness, health, and success in school.
