Valve Launches a Revamped Mobile App for Steam Featuring QR Code Login

Your old, clumsy Steam mobile app will no longer be supported. Valve’s updated Steam mobile app is now available for download on Android and iOS. The new version has been in development since at least August of this year.

The game developer said it had rewritten the program “on a new framework and overhauled the design” when it solicited beta testers. It has also added additional features to the app, such as the ability to scan a QR code to log in.

You can now log in to your Steam account without entering your username and password by using the new sign-in option. To confirm your identity, it consults the two-factor authentication credentials saved to your phone.

You can sign into Steam with your mobile device by scanning its unique QR code, which will take you to a confirmation screen with more information, including a map showing your approximate location relative to the device you’re signing into. This way, you’ll know for sure that you’re the one approving the login attempt.

When logging in with a username and password, the app will still ask if you want to accept or reject the sign-in. In addition, the Authorized Devices tab allows you to review and remove access for any unauthorized devices that have been attached to your account.

Furthermore, you can now personalize Steam notifications for sales, trades, friend requests, and other categories, and the store has been optimized for mobile displays. From the sounds of the announcement article, Valve is also working on integrating QR sign-in into the Steam Deck and bringing the Authorized Devices page to the Steam Client and browser.
