Jack White removed Third Man Records from Twitter on Sunday, in response to Elon Musk’s reactivation of Donald Trump’s account on the social networking site.
White stated in an Instagram post on Sunday, “Shame on you for giving Trump and other professional liars the platform you now control, and shame on anybody who does the same.” “And shame on you if you consider it unimportant. It is.”
White’s remarks were included in a lengthy post in which he described Musk’s reinstatement of Trump’s account as “absolutely revolting.” He wrote, “That is officially an asshole move.”
Musk declared on Saturday that he would reinstate Donald Trump‘s Twitter account. Following the revolt in the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, access to the podium was denied to the previous president.
Musk stated that the decision was made after a public poll indicated that Trump should be permitted to return.
White wrote, “That is not ‘free speech’ or ‘what the poll determined’ or whatever bullshit you pretend it to be; this is you helping a fascist gain a platform so you can someday receive tax incentives.” “I mean, how many more billions do you need to endanger the very existence of democracy to obtain?”
White went on to praise Musk’s work with Tesla and said he was a supporter of the automaker, but said that by allowing Trump to return to Twitter, Musk “has gone too far and is now using his power to promote horrible, violence-inciting liars who are taking the country and the world backward and endangering the democracy that made him wealthy and successful in the first place.
“White remarked, “I believe in free speech, but I would not permit the KKK to organize a rally on our record label’s performance stage.” “This is one of the platforms we control and have input on; it is not a government-run town square.” And if I ran a gas station, I would not offer the KKK gasoline to burn crosses and then wash my hands as if I had nothing to do with fostering hatred.”
White stated in a follow-up remark to his own post that he would be shutting Third Man Records’ Twitter account. The @thirdmanrecords account was deleted from the social media network on Sunday afternoon.
White wrote, “It’s unfortunate that our label’s artists will lose a social media outlet to promote their art, and I apologize to our artists for having to do this, but we are not going to support you or this platform that will help conspiracy-spreading liars and out-of-touch narci-capitalists tear this country apart, all for Trump’s ego and your tax break agenda.”
jack White stated that he will investigate additional social media platforms for his label and artists.
White has no individual Twitter account. “If you ask me, it’s primarily a sea of negativity,” he wrote.
