On March 2, 2006, Brendan Dassey, a brutal killer who was only 16 years old at the time, was arrested. He was arrested for murder in the first degree and cutting up a dead body. He was also accused of sexual assault in the first degree. He raped and killed Teresa Halbach, who was 25 years old, in a brutal way.
Dassey’s attorney is still fighting in the Supreme Court. Then, in May 2021, lawmakers passed a law making it illegal to lie to children while interrogating them. This is so that the kids won’t say things that aren’t true. So, Illinois was the first state to pass this bill.

Where is Brendan Dassey Currently?
Brendan Dassey is still in jail. Dassey turned 31 in 2022 and was still serving his life sentence. He was sent to Oshkosh Correctional Institution in Wisconsin, USA. Dassey was arrested at 17 for first-degree murder in the Halbach case. He was even accused of raping and disfiguring Teresa’s dead body.
Brendan Dassey pleaded guilty in court after police questioned him four times. The police officers questioned the man for 48 hours. But Dassey’s lawyers said he was wrongly blamed for the murder he didn’t do. They also said that the police officers forced him to admit to this murder.
Since there is no DNA evidence against Dassey, his lawyers asked the court to let him go. Dassey’s videotaped confession was the only piece of evidence. So, his lawyers thought that he was sent to jail solely because he admitted to doing it.
