A family statement says that Kirstie Alley, who was 71, died of cancer.

“We are sorry to tell you that our amazing, strong, and loving mother has died,” her children wrote.

Alley won an Emmy for her role on the popular TV show as the manager of a pub.

The Wichita, Kansas, native has also made appearances in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and the Look Who’s Talking flicks.

The family statement didn’t say what kind of cancer she had, but it did say that it was “recently found.”

It continued, “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with amazing strength, leaving us convinced of her never-ending joy of life and whatever adventures lay ahead.”

“As famous as she was on screen, her role as a mother and grandmother were even more important to her.”

They also praised her “energy and love for life, her children, grandchildren, and many animals, as well as her constant joy in making things.”

John Travolta, who worked with her in the Look Who’s Talking movies, posted a tribute to her on Instagram.

“Kirstie was one of the most important people I’ve ever been with. I love you Kirstie, “he wrote next to a picture of her.

“I’m sure we’ll meet up again.”
