Will There Be Carnival Row Season 3 on Amazon Prime?

When Amazon Prime Video first announced Carnival Row in 2017, it sounded exactly like the type of slick and stylish fantasy mystery that spawns new cult classics.

The series features the acting talents of Orlando Bloom, Cara Delevingne, Simon McBurney, Tamzin Merchant, David Gyasi, Andrew Gower, Karla Crome, Arty Froushan, Indira Varma, and Jared Harris, among others.

It had a little bit of everything: a distinct sense of style, a love story involving A-list actors Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, and a metaphor for immigration and racism.

In November 2022, however, it was quietly announced that the upcoming second season would be the show’s last, with “final season” suddenly appearing in conjunction with show announcements.

Reason Behind the Cancelation of Carnival Row Season 3!

When Carnival Row was finally released on Prime Video in August of 2019, the reception was best described as “meh.”

With a 40% score on Rotten Tomatoes, critics had no doubt that a significant amount of time and money had been invested in bringing this steampunk-style world to life but ultimately criticized it for lacking substance.

Granted, it fared better with fans, but the team had their work cut out for them if they wanted Carnival Row to become a sustainable business.

It was evident there was confidence in the series, as Prime Video announced season two was on the way a full month before the premiere of the first eight episodes.

When the series was finally released, however, the results were mixed. According to the aggregate website FlixPatrol, the show remained in Prime Video’s Top 10 for an entire month in the United States, but only one day in the United Kingdom.

In the Czech Republic, where the show is filmed, it stayed in the top 10 for 362 days before finally falling out of the rankings.

So there was room for improvement, but it wasn’t a total failure; accordingly, in November 2019 they began production with room to grow.

Orlando Bloom confirmed the news from his trailer, filming the team while encouraging fans to “keep their chins up.”

The optimistic actor performed a scene with his friends and told the audience: “Everyone, please stay safe out there! Self-quarantine. Stay safe and do the right thing for yourself and your family, despite the fact that the entire corona phenomenon seems utterly absurd.”

Covid lockdowns, start-ups, and reshoots must have had a significant financial impact on the series, although no official explanation has been provided.

The sudden demand for face masks and Covid-monitors on-set could have caused them to go over budget, as the budget was already quite high and other areas, such as special effects, stunt teams, and costumes for supernatural and human characters, were in need of funding.
