The Boston Marathon bombing was a terrorist attack that took place during the annual Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. The attack was carried out by two brothers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

After eighteen hours of fleeing the shoot in an SUV, he was found hiding one block away. Dzhokhar also survived the boat with over 100 rounds of live ammunition but he was eventually captured alive.

After being captured Dzhokhar was seen giving gestures to the security camera inside his cell three months after being captured. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was convicted on 30 counts related to the bombings at the Bostom Marathon finish line.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found guilty of all charges was sentenced to death and was transferred to a maximum security jail in Colorado. After two years of the bombing, he was found guilty of all 30 charges. However, he appealed the sentence referring to errors in judge selection and the exclusion of evidence.

A panel of three judges turned over the death sentence insisting that the original judge did not take into account how much the jury would be convinced by prior knowledge of the bombing. While there was never a chance of Tsarnaev ever going free he might not die by execution.

The Department of Justice in March 2021 argued to the Supreme Court in favor of reinstating the initial death sentence and the supreme court agreed with them.

The Supreme Court after a year overturned the ruling by a vote of 6 to 3 which placed I’m back on death row. His attorney is however trying to appeal the ruling.
