Ballerina Release Date: Ballerina is an upcoming American action-thriller movie that will be directed by Len Wiseman. Shay Hatten and Emerald Fennell wrote the script, which was based on Hatten’s story.
It is the first movie that is not part of the main John Wick series. It takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).
It features Ana de Armas, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves. In the movie, Rooney (Armas), a dancer who is also a killer, goes after the people who killed her family.
In 2017, Lionsgate bought Hatten’s spec story for the movie. He then worked on the final screenplay for Parabellum and was the lead writer for Chapter 4.
In October 2019, Wiseman was hired as the director. By May 2020, Chad Stahelski was confirmed as producer, who had been in charge of the series before.
In April 2022, it was confirmed that de Armas would play the lead part instead of Unity Phelan, who played the character in Parabellum.
By November of that year, the rest of the main cast was complete. The main filming began soon after, and it took place in Prague.
Ballerina Release Date: When Can We Watch It?
The spin-off movie started filming in November 2022, and the good news is that Ballerina now has a definite release date.
The movie will come out in theaters on June 7, 2024, provided there are no changes to the date.
As we said, Ana de Armas will play Rooney, a ballerina-turned-assassin. Rooney was played by real-life dancer Unity Phelan in a short cameo in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019).
Even though the actor was still in early talks when Chapter 4 was being made, there is a scene in the movie where the villain, the Marquis de Gramont (Bill Skarsgard), goes to a ballet. If you look closely, the one dancer on stage looks a lot like de Armas.
Before agreeing to join, the star did have one important request: “It was really important for me to hire a female writer because when I joined the project, there was only the director, Len Wiseman, and another guy.”
“And I said, ‘That’s not going to work. So, I talked to about five or six women writers. I was so happy that we hired Emerald Fennell.
She has also given us hints about the action in the spin-off, which sounds like it will be as good as the John Wick movies: “That’s going to be a whole new level. “That movie was so hard to watch!”
At the SXSW premiere of Chapter 4, Reeves revealed that he will be in Ballerina. He didn’t say more about whether he’ll be a main character or just a cameo, though.
With this movie, Reeves and de Armas are working together for the third time, after Knock Knock (2015) and Exposed (2016).
But De Armas herself hinted that the two will at least fight together (or against each other).
No official plot details have been released, but a vague synopsis hints that Rooney, played by de Armas, will want to get even with the people who killed her family.
In Chapter 3, it is revealed that Wick’s adoptive mother, The Director, runs a dance school that is really a place where assassins are trained. The Director is in charge of the Ruska Roma criminal organization.
Ballerina doesn’t have a trailer yet, but one is likely to come out soon now that shooting is over and a release date has been set.
