Early Life
DeAndre Cortez Way also known as Soulja Boy was born on July 28, 1990, in Chicago. At the age of six years, he moved to Atlanta where he gained an interest in rap music. He began singing at an early age and his passion for music did not cease.
He moved to Batwaville, Mississippi with his father at the age of 14. Details about his school have not yet been released to the public at the time of writing this article.
Career
Soulja Boy’s father saw his passion for music and decided to provide a recording studio for him to explore his music goal. He was able to upload some of his music on SoundClick in November 2005 where he received positive reviews on the site.
He was able to also create a Youtube account as well as a Myspace account. His first studio album Unsigned &Still Major: Fa Album Before da Album in 2007 and received positive reports. He also released his studio single Soulja Boy Crank That.
After the release of Crank That he met with Mr. Collilaek to sign his first record deal with Interscope Records and on August 12 it was used on the television series Entourage. The single topped US Billboard Hot 100 as well as Hot Ring Masters.
His second studio album The DeAndre Way was supposed to be his most personal and successful album and he revealed that he wished to feature top rappers like Jay-z, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West. The album’s first track Pow was released in January 2009 but it failed to gain much attention.
Soulja Boy then released a couple of mix tapes in 2011 titled Smooky which had cartoon cover art of him doing a 360 on a bicycle. After the release of his fourth studio album Loyalty, he released a mixtape and a digital album in 2015.
He went on to release his fifth and sixth studio album in 2016 with the single Drop The Top. He was able to drop his sixth album on June 9 through his label Stack on Deck Entertainment Better Late Than Never featuring Lil Twist and Lil Yachty and I’m July he released the single Rockstar.
On February 2021, he released the mixtape Soulja World, which featured Lil B, and in April 2021 he signed a record deal with Virgin Music.
