You can now change the sound quality and other settings on your Pixel Buds on Chromebooks with the new Pixel Buds Progressive Web App (PWA). Chromebooks can get the PWA for free. The app is missing some features, but it still works well as an option to the Pixel Buds’ official Android app for setting them up.

As part of ChromeOS, Google provides several progressive web apps (PWAs), such as the well-known Google Drive and Chrome Remote Desktop. Recently, Google released another PWA for Chromebooks that is meant to give Pixel Buds users more power and customization choices.

You can get this new Pixel Buds PWA for free from the Play Store. However, Chrome Unboxed saw that there was a problem with installing the app from the Play Store straight. It would not open. It is expected that this problem will be quickly fixed in the next few days.

At the time of this writing, users need to go to mypixelbuds.google.com and hit the three-dot icon in the toolbar in the upper right part of the browser to access and use the PWA. After that, users can install the PWA and then connect their Pixel Buds to their Chromebook by following the on-screen directions.

The Pixel Buds web app offers users a level of control akin to what’s accessible on Pixel phones. This includes the ability to finely adjust sound quality and other essential elements of the Pixel Buds. From your Chromebook laptop, you can tailor settings such as active noise cancellation (ANC), EQ, touch controls, and multipoints to match your preferences.

Moreover, the app conveniently displays the battery level of your Pixel Buds, allowing for effective battery management and planning when to charge these earbuds. An added advantage is the flexibility to configure your Pixel Buds using the app even after disconnecting from both Pixel phones and Chromebooks.

However, it’s important to note that while the app covers fundamental control features, it currently lacks certain options like Spatial Audio, Audio Switch controls, and Eartip seal check.

As highlighted by Chrome Unboxed, this absence may deter users seeking a comprehensive replacement for the dedicated Android app. Despite this limitation, if these specific features aren’t critical for you, the Pixel Buds web app functions seamlessly and efficiently, making it a notable addition to the repertoire of excellent Chromebook apps available.
