Fans reacted enthusiastically to the epic trailer for this long-awaited sequel to Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington’s ‘Gladiator II’.
About the Trailer
The three-minute long trailer begins with the introduction of Paul Mescal’s adult Lucius. He now lives in the North African region of Numidia, the nephew of the late Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). “I remember that day. I’ve never forgotten it, that a slave took vengeance against an emperor,” he said, while a flashback appears.
When he is taken prisoner and finally brought back to the arena by Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal), an epic battle begins. Also starring is Denzel Washington, who plays a wealthy arms dealer and forms a deep connection with Lucius early on. The trailer ends on a high note as we witness a full-throttle collision between Lucius and Marcus.
In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Ridley Scott revealed that he loved Paul Mescal’s performance in ‘Normal People’, and he cast Mescal in the lead role without much discussion. Mescal also underwent rigorous physical training for the role, and co-star Pedro Pascal also considered competing with him in the arena to be difficult. The original ‘Gladiator’ film brought Russell Crowe much praise in 2000, and now Hans Zimmer will be back to compose the score for the sequel.
