We follow a number of characters in the vast post-nuclear war globe created by Prime Video’s “Fallout,” many of them are attempting to locate their loved ones or discover their identity and place in this bizarre universe.
The show benefits from having well-developed characters whose motivations and behaviors are not clear-cut. Every one of them contributes something unique, and although viewers may love some of them and despise others, there is one character that they all adore: CX404.
One is intrigued by his journey throughout the season because the threat to his life is felt more strongly than that of any other character in the series. Is our favorite character still alive?
Does the Dog Die in the Fallout TV Show?
In Amazon’s Fallout series, the dog doesn’t die—at least not in the first season. Near the end of the second episode of the show, CX404 is stabbed by the Ghoul; however, her assailant uses a Stimpak to bring her back to life so he can use her to find her previous owner.
The Ghoul quickly starts calling CX404 Dogmeat as they traverse the wasteland together, bringing the dog closer to the ones seen in the well-known video game series.
CX404’s Fate Is Better Than That of His Owner
As with all the other characters in the show, the dog in “Fallout,” played by Belgian Malinois Lana5, CX404 nicknamed Four aka Dogmeat, has a very difficult trek through the American wasteland, and Four bears the brunt of it.
Without Zildig’s generosity, he would not have been able to live as the runt of the litter. He provided the dog with the affection and attention that made Four very protective of his human, to the point that he was willing to kill and die for Zildig.
The issue for Zildig starts when one of his coworkers discovers him. Zildig becomes a wanted guy after Four murders the coworker after feeling that his human is in danger. But the scientist had already made up his mind to flee, and he did so with his dog at his side.
When the Ghoul, one of the numerous bounty hunters attempting to cash in on the prize by selling Zildig to the highest bidder, confronts them later in their journey, Four resists and makes an effort to save his master.
The Ghoul is a very different monster, yet Four is powerful enough to battle and defeat anyone. He battled valiantly, so much so that the Ghoul had to knife him to preserve his skin, but Four never stood a chance against him. Fortunately, the wound wasn’t serious, and the Ghoul used a stimpak to heal Four.
This was primarily because Zildig had fled, and the Ghoul believed that his dog was the only person who could locate him. The Ghoul’s survival was guaranteed by the tactical advantage Four gave him. Would Four be able to make it through the world he’s stuck in now that Zildig is gone?
It turns out that he has a soft spot for dogs, even though the Ghoul may have stabbed him during their altercation. The Ghoul had a dog that he cherished in a previous life when he was Cooper, a human. Cooper lost everything as a result of the turn of events, including his wife, daughter, and dog.
Cooper endures for more than 200 years, sometimes barely surviving, particularly because his transformation into the Ghoul puts him on a precarious path that will end if he doesn’t receive his vials in a timely manner. The ghoul lives despite all odds, while the other ghouls lose their minds and are slain.
Because of his survival, the Ghoul also recalls his time as Cooper, and his affection for the dog he once owned is reflected in his affections for Four, whom he nicknamed Dogmeat. Four needs a new master now that Zildig is gone, and after much back and forth, he finally chooses the Ghoul, who may pretend he doesn’t need Four but has obviously grown to like him.
Even though the wasteland is a terrible place to be and does not ensure anyone’s life, Four is fortunate to have lived by the end of Season 1, particularly after experiencing a few situations that may have easily resulted in his death.
