According to the most recent Derby County news, the Rams’ manager has quit, as reported by Derbyshire Live.

Wayne Rooney has resigned as manager of Derby County after 18 months in charge, citing the need for a new leader with “new vitality.”

Rams issued a statement this evening confirming Rooney’s departure following his meeting with administrators Quantuma earlier today.

Rooney has resigned from his position as Philip Cocu’s replacement with immediate effect after serving the club with distinction since January 2021.

The Rams would have remained in the Championship had they not been penalised with two deductions totaling 21 points because the club was under administration. During an interview, Rooney stated that the administrators had tried to persuade him to stay, but that he had made up his mind and was not going to change his mind.

Rooney said: “I’ve been keeping an eye on the ownership situation at Derby County over the summer.” I visited with the club’s administrators today to advise them of my decision to depart the organization. Because they tried so hard to get me to change my mind, I have to give them credit for their efforts.

It’s been a roller coaster of emotions, both highs and lows, but I have to say that I’ve relished the challenge.

A new vitality and unaffected by the events of the past 18 months are needed to lead the club, according to me personally.

As a final note, I’m aware that the club still has interested parties that want to take over the club’s operations. In response to them, I explain that Derby County is a terrific club with a great history and a great fan base. “I hope you have a wonderful future ahead of you.”

David Clowes, who purchased the stadium from former owner Mel Morris, said that he was closing in on a takeover of the club the same day Wayne Rooney announced his resignation.

“The joint administrators are very disappointed that Wayne has taken the difficult decision to leave the club and we have spent some time today trying to persuade him to stay, but understand his reasons for wanting to go,” a spokesperson for administrators Quantuma said in a statement, per NBC Sports.

Throughout the 2021/22 season, he has done a fantastic job of leading the team, the club, and the local community through a variety of off-the-field challenges. We are appreciative for his efforts.

Administrators are aware that staff and supporters will be disappointed by this news, but we all wish him, his wife Coleen, and their four sons all the best in the future and we are confident they will always be welcomed back. ”

A joint administrator statement reads in part: “The joint administrators wish to reaffirm that Wayne’s departure will not impact those continuing, positive conversations about the sale of the club’s business and assets.”
