“I Carly” Actress Jennette Mc Curdy Has Retired from Acting Because She Despises Her Profession.
On her podcast, “Empty Inside,” McCurdy, who portrayed Sam Puckett on the Nickelodeon sitcom that ended in 2012, talked about quitting acting.
The “fish out of water” metaphor was brought up during a recent interview with “Mom” star Anna Faris, in which the pair discussed how Faris got her start in the industry as a child actor.
It was a situation that McCurdy could identify with: “My mom put me in it when I was 6, and by sort of age 10 or 11 I was the main monetary support for my family.”
My parents didn’t have a lot of money, and this was the only way out,” she added. “It was very much the strain of my family not having a lot of money.”
After quitting acting to pursue writing and directing, McCurdy revealed that she never intended to be in this industry in the first place.
She admitted that her fear of public speaking and auditions made it tough for her to begin acting.
The “iCarly”/”Victorious” spin-off “Sam & Cat” co-starred Ariana Grande, but McCurdy admitted that acting forced her to put her “personal emotions on the back burner” in order to focus on the characters.
It was a long path for me when my mother passed away, but I finally gave up because I felt that a lot of my mother’s ideas for my life had perished.
As a result of the whole ordeal, she felt “so dissatisfied by the roles that I did and felt like it was the most just cheesy, embarrassing” thing she had ever experienced.
Faris inquired as to whether she would ever consider returning to acting.
According to McCurdy, who wrote a one-woman show, she ended up acting in it in spite of her nervousness about the project.
It’s McCurdy’s opinion that a one-woman show would be the best way to showcase her talents.
