Blake Martinez is a former inside linebacker in American football for the National Football League (NFL). After graduating from Canyon del Oro High School in Oro Valley, Arizona, he used a full scholarship to enroll at Stanford University.
Starting at linebacker for the Cardinal for two years, he earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2015. He was picked up by the Green Bay Packers in the 2016 NFL Draft’s fourth round.
Blake Edmon Martinez was born to parents Marc and Carrisa Martinez on January 9, 1994, in Tucson, Arizona. The head coach of Canyon del Oro High School in Oro Valley, Dustin Peace, saw him shine at three different positions: tight end, running back, and linebacker. He was a three-sport letterman, earning football, basketball, and volleyball honors.
He was a two-time defensive player of the year at Canyon del Oro and was chosen to the PrepStar All-West Region Team. He also accumulated 1,100 total offense yards in his senior season and set a school record with 247 tackles.
Rivals.com rated Martinez as a three-star prospect in the inside linebacker position. Multiple universities, including Stanford, Boise State, Oregon State, and San Jose State, offered him financial aid packages. Oregon and San Diego State were also interested in him, in addition to Arizona and Arizona State in Arizona. He officially became a Cardinal player on August 1, 2011, when he signed his letter of intent.

Blake Martinez Contract Details

When he was finally set free and found his way to Sin City, though, it dropped dramatically.
Blake Martinez Salary
However, the base salary on his contract with the Raiders was only $311,110. After leaving New York and a deal worth over $1 million, he was making a lot less on his second team this season.
For Stanford in 2012, Martinez’s first season as a Cardinal, he saw action in 14 games and made his collegiate debut against Duke. For his defensive work throughout the year, he was honored with Stanford’s Greg Piers Service Team Award.
Martinez’s 2013 season was his second, and he continued to see action, starting 10 games and recording 11 tackles (seven solos). In a game against the California Golden Bears, a divisional opponent, he recorded six tackles, a forced fumble, and his first career interception. An honorable mention for Academic All-Pac-12 was awarded to him at the end of the year.
In 2014, Martinez broke out and started 13 games, with three games where he recorded ten or more tackles. In what was likely his greatest game of the season, he made two interceptions against the team throwing the first overall choice in the 2016 NFL Draft, quarterback Jared Goff.
This halted Goff’s streak of intercept-free passing attempts, which had been a school record. In a third-and-goal situation, he also recovered a fumble made by Daniel Lasco. Martinez said after the game that the way he closed it out was “important.”
He concluded the year with 102 tackles, the most on the team, and was recognized for his efforts by being named to the All-Pac-12 honorable mention team and the All-Pac-12 third team by Phil Steele.
In 2015, Martinez was a senior, and he was recognized by Phil Steele as a first-team All-Pac-12 selection and a fourth-team All-America pick. He started all 14 games he played in, and he finished with a team-high 141 tackles (75 solos), 1.5 sacks, and 6 pass breakups. The Pacific-12 Conference, the Associated Press, and Phil Steele all voted him to their respective first teams for his accomplishments.
