Does Ragnar Die in Vikings?
Unfortunately for Vikings lovers, Ragnar Lothbrok died in season four, part two. King Aelle (Ivan Blakeley Kaye) killed him by throwing him into a pile of snakes, where he died from venomous bites.
In Vikings, How Did Ragnar Die?
Ragnar was fueled with fury after being betrayed by his older brother Rollo’s defection to West Francia in Season 4. He decided to raid Paris out of vengeance. Rollo, on the other hand, was completely prepared for Ragnar’s onslaught and was able to repel his brother’s men.
Ragnar was embarrassed when he returned to Scandinavia, and he decided to leave Kattegat, isolating himself from everyone and living as a recluse for years. He reappeared as a different man, resentful that his best days were over.
When Ragnar returned to Kattegat, he understood he had only one option: take his life – or, rather, his death – into his own hands. Ragnar resolved to return to England one last time in order to die on his own terms. He traveled to Wessex, surrendered to King Ecbert, and was delivered to King lle as a prisoner.
However, Vikings revealed that Ragnar’s aim all along was to die at the hands of King elle so that his sons might return and take dreadful vengeance on his opponents. He would not only die of natural causes but he would also be immortalized as a Viking legend.
After being tortured for days by elle, an unfazed Ragnar was thrown into a pit full of deadly snakes and ultimately entered Valhalla. Ragnar’s death in Season 4, Episode 15 astounded viewers, who didn’t anticipate Vikings to go so far as to murder its founding hero – and certainly not in such a cruel fashion.
Was Ragnar Lothbrok a Real Person?
Ragnar Lothbrock (sometimes called Ragnar Lodbrok or Lothbrok) was a legendary Viking who almost certainly existed, though the Ragnar in the Viking Sagas may be based on more than one real person. The real Ragnar was a scary Viking warlord and chieftain who caused a lot of trouble for England and France.
