Early Life
Victor Conte was born in 1950 in Frensco California to his parents Shirley and Victor Conte. Victor Conte was the first child of three children in an average working-class Italian family. He attended Mclane High School before proceeding to Fresno City College.
However, he dropped out of school to pursue a career in music after he was convinced by his cousin who was musician Bruce Conte. He was convinced to quit school and join the boy band and group Common Ground as a bass player.
Victor Conte however left Common Ground and joined the band Pure Food and Drug Act in 1970 and was nicknamed the Walking Fish due to his ability to walk across the stage during a live performance. He also left Pure Food and Drug Act in 1977.
He was a member of the Tower of Power from 1977 to 1979 as a bass guitar player. Victor Conte also celebrated during that period with Herbie Hancock and famous violinist Sugarcane Harris.
Career
Victor Conte founded the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative which is a sports nutrition center that was initially located in Millbrae, before relocating to Burlingame, California. The United States Anti-Doping Agency claimed that he was responsible for developing the banned steroid tetrahydrogestrinone.
The steroid was reported to be created alongside bodybuilding chemist Patrick Arnold. Under a plea bargain, Victor Conte entered a guilty plea in July 2005 to one count of conspiracy to distribute steroids and a second charge of plundering a portion of a check.
Victor Conte was found guilty of the charges and was subsequently sentenced to four months in prison in the federal Taft Correctional Institution in Taft, California, and another four months on house arrest. He appeared in an interview with Martin Bashir on ABC 20/20 show where he admitted to running doling programs.
