Holland was born in Kingston upon Thames, London, England, on June 1, 1996. His father Dominic Holland is a comedian and author, while his mother Nicola is a photographer. Holland has three younger brothers and is the eldest of four children.
Before enrolling in The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon, he first attended Wimbledon College and the Roman Catholic preparatory school Donhead in Wimbledon.
He started dancing for the first time in a hip hop class at Nifty Feet Dance School in Wimbledon. Holland was seen by choreographer Lynne Page, a colleague of “Billy Elliot the Musical” choreographer Peter Darling while performing with his dance school at the 2006 Richmond Dance Festival.
Holland made his West End debut in “Billy Elliot the Musical” on June 28, 2008, as Billy’s best friend Michael after eight auditions and two years of training. On September 8, 2008, he gave his first performance as Billy, for which he earned favorable reviews.

In 2009, he made his television debut when he appeared on the ITV1 program “The Feel Good Factor.” As part of events commemorating the fifth anniversary of “Billy Elliot the Musical,” Holland and four other Billy Elliot actors met Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street in March 2010.
On March 31, 2010, Holland was also selected to play the title role in the fifth-anniversary production. On May 29, 2010, he and three other performers in his regular rotation as Billy came to an end.
When Tom’s dyslexia was discovered at age 7, his parents decided to put him in a private school. Although he occasionally receives abuse on social media for spelling and punctuation errors, he is praised mainly for his natural acting talent and athletic prowess. 
Transition to Film
Holland made his acting debut in 2011 by playing the title character Sho in the British adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s “Arrietty.” In September 2012, when “The Impossible” made its world premiere at the Toronto International Picture Festival, he made his acting debut in a feature film.
Along with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts, he was a part of the critically acclaimed and financially successful movie, which took in $180.3 million worldwide.
Holland received high praise for his performance and multiple honors, including the London Film Critics Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year and the National Board of Review Award for Breakthrough Performance.

He then went on to co-star with Tom Hardy in the 2013 picture “Locke,” play a supporting role in “How I Live Now,” which was released on October 4 in the UK, and star in “In the Heart of the Sea” (2015).
Marvel Cinematic Universe
After being named the new young Peter Parker/Spider-Man on June 23, 2015, Holland’s “life was flipped upside down,” in his own words. He inked a six-film contract with Marvel Studios, and in “Captain America: Civil War,” in 2016, he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut as Spider-Man.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which was released in July 2017, was his second MCU movie. The movie was a box financial and critical hit, collecting $117 million in just its first weekend before going on to gross over $800 million globally.
Holland achieved a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the youngest actor to play a title character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for his performance. 
Holland’s pay for the role was reportedly around $500,000, and the success of the movie probably earned him a hefty bonus that increased his pay to at least $1.5 million.

In addition to his early film roles, Holland has also starred in a number of other non-Marvel productions. He appeared in four episodes of the BBC Two drama “Wolf Hall” in 2015 as Gregory Cromwell.
He also made an appearance in the fifth season of the Paramount Network’s “Lip Sync Battle” in 2017, competing against actress Zendaya in a dance routine to Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me” and the Rihanna song “Umbrella.”
Other movies in which Holland has acted include “Pilgrimage,” “The Lost City of Z,” and “Edge of Winter” (2016). (2017). Due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal, his movie “The Current War,” in which he co-stars with Benedict Cumberbatch from Marvel, did not hit theatres until 2019.
