Anna Delvey’s real name is Anna Sorokin. She was born on January 23, 1991, in a town outside of Moscow, Russia, called Domodedovo. However, she spent most of her childhood in Germany. Her family was middle-class. Her father drove a truck, and her mother used to own a small convenience store.

Sorokin left Germany when she was 19 to study fashion in Paris, where she got the name Anna Delvey. In the summer of 2013, she worked for Purple magazine and went to Fashion Week in New York. When it was over, she decided to stay in the city.

Sorokin hasn’t talked to her parents since she was found guilty, and they didn’t come to her trial. Her father has said in the past that he has disowned her. In April 2019, he told DailyMailTV, “I have nothing to do with her life or what she does. What she has done is her fault.”

At the time, she was staying at a place in Los Angeles County, California, that helped people with drug problems. During her trial, it was thought that she had stolen about $275,000 worth of things.

Sorokin was found guilty of eight charges on April 25, 2019. These included attempted grand theft in the first degree, grand theft in the second degree, grand theft in the third degree, and theft of services.

In May of that year, she was given a sentence of 4–12 years in state prison, a $24,000 fine, and a restitution order for about $199,000.

Sorokin talked about the Netflix show in an open letter for Insider. She said that “nothing about seeing a fictionalized version of myself in this criminal insane asylum setting sounds appealing to me.”

She wrote, “I had been hoping for a long time that by the time Inventing Anna came out, I would have moved on with my life.” “I thought that the show would be something like the end of a long chapter that had come to an end.
