The Mean One Ending Explained

The Mean One is a 2022 American Christmas slasher film written by Flip and Finn Kobler and directed by Steven LaMorte.

The film is a horror parody of Dr. Seuss’s 1957 children’s book How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, starring David Howard Thornton as the eponymous character, with supporting performances by Krystle Martin, Chase Mullins, John Bigham, Erik Baker, Flip Kobler, and Amy Schumacher.

The narration by Christopher Sanders is one of the highlights of The Mean One. The rhyme scheme, which was composed by Finn and Flip Kobler, is flawless. It calls back to other Seuss adaptations in a way that could have easily been overbearing or annoying, but it is used sparingly and to perfection.

It follows a young woman on a mission to protect her town from a green homicidal humanoid creature on a murderous rampage during the holiday season. Because the film is an unauthorized parody, it never uses the original book’s language.

The Mean One Ending Explained (in Detail)

The ending of The Mean One shocked viewers and did little to answer audience questions, so here’s an explanation of the film’s ending and other lingering questions. The film takes a horror spin on the Dr. Seuss classic, and, like its predecessors, exposition is delivered through a narrator.

The voice-over helped the audience follow the story, but with so much going on, it could be difficult to understand what the narrator was saying. As a result, certain aspects of the plot were ambiguous, such as why The Mean One (David Howard Thornton) began killing people, why he stopped when Cindy left, and what was up with all the knock-off names.

The Mean One foreshadows the Grinch horror film parody by preserving some of Seuss’ original story. The Mean One, a.k.a. The Grinch, attempts to steal the Christmas presents of the people of Newville through simple thievery, but the retelling departs from the original story after Cindy-You-Know-Who catches The Mean One stealing her Christmas tree.

Cindy’s mother enters the room, catches The Mean One with Cindy, and assaults him. Cindy’s mother, however, falls, is stabbed in the neck, and dies in the midst of the chaos. Everything changes after this triggering incident. When The Mean One begins murdering others in Newville, a traumatized and ostracised Cindy flees, and the town effectively bans Christmas. But what happens at the end of the story?

‘The Mean One’ Review: a Pretty Perfect Parody

The Mean One, starring David Howard Thornton, is set to be released in theatres on December 8th. As Art the Clown, David Howard Thornton has certainly made his mark on the horror community; his image is as well-known among horror fans as Michael Myers or Jason Vorhees. While the Grinch’s likeness is also iconic, the Grinch’s story has never been told as a horror story until now.
