Edwin Castro From California Claims a $2 Billion Powerball Jackpot
Edwin Castro of Florida claimed Tuesday’s $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot. He got his winning ticket at a gas station in Altadena. Castro selected a lump sum payment of $997.6 million. No information about Castro, including his residence, was made public.
The state lottery has stated that the public has a right to know the names of the winners, but they will not release any other information on the winners in order to protect their privacy.
Castro did not show up to the news conference in Sacramento where his name was announced, much to the dismay of the California Lottery. Unfortunately, he was unable to attend, so a statement was given on his behalf.
The statement stated,
“As startled and thrilled as I am to have won the Powerball drawing, the actual winner is the California public education system.”
It’s wonderful news for the Golden State because the California Lottery was established to help fund public schools and universities. It’s encouraging to know that my success has also had a large, positive impact on education in California, where I benefited from the public school system.
The winning lottery ticket for the drawing on November 7 was sold by Joe’s Service Center on Woodbury Road in Altadena. The Powerball was 10, while the other numbers on the ticket were 10, 33, 41, 47, and 56, and the Powerball ten.
It was the largest jackpot ever won in a U.S. lottery, at $2.04 billion. There were three other winning California tickets that matched the first five numbers but not the Powerball.
One million and fifteen hundred thousand dollars were collected through the sale of this ticket in the cities of Gardena, Beaumont, and San Francisco. Twenty-two of these tickets went on sale to the general public.
