Early Life
Jesse Williams was born on August 5, 1981, in Chicago to Johanna Chase a well-known potter, and Reginald Williams. His mother is a Swedish American while his father is an African-American. He attended Moses Brown School in Rhode Island in 1998 before processing to Temple University.
Jesse Williams graduated with a double major in African American Studies and Film and Media Arts. He also followed in his father’s footsteps by enrolling as a teacher and was employed at Philadelphia Public School for six years. He taught American Studies and African Studies and English.

Jesse Williams began acting in 2005 and was chosen to participate in the New York Actors Showcase presented by ABC Television. He was part of the 14 actors that were chosen from 800 individuals who auditioned. Ever since the audition in 2006, he has appeared in several television and film series as well as theatre productions.
He created a production company FarWord Inc in 2012 and the same year a fan campaign was organized to try to influence film producers to cast him in The Hunger Games as Finnick Odair. However, it was announced on May 6, 2021, that he would be leaving the show and, his final episode was aired on May 20 on ABC. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he revamped that the decision to leave the show was a collective thing and part of a discussion the actor had with the showrunner.
