It seems like hip-hop has lost another great artist. Chino XL, whose real name was Derek Emmanuel Barbosa, reportedly passed away at the age of 50.

Rap Booklets seems to have started spreading the sad news when they featured a review of the recording artist’s first album, Here to Save You All.

“We at Rap Booklets send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Chino XL, who passed away today at the age of 50,”

AllHipHop then confirmed the information, citing an inside source. Given Chino XL’s age, internet fans find the heartbreaking statement hard to believe.

However, A-F-R-O, a fellow rapper and actor, confirmed his old friend’s loss on his official X (previously Twitter) page.

“RIP to CHINO XL… I’m gonna miss you, big bro 🕊️,” he wrote.

Joe Budden and Page Kennedy are among the prominent members of the rap scene who have started writing memorials for the late emcee.

“Damn… RIP to the legend Chino XL 🙏🏾,” penned Budden.

“This one hurts. This been my dawg since 2001. Ima miss you big bro. Our conversations about rap, about being girl dads, about the gym, and secrets. Ima miss you bro,” wrote Kennedy.

Since Chino XL was constantly working on new projects, the news is even more devastating for the hip-hop icon. When Rakim’s album G.O.D.’S NETWORK – REB7RTH was eventually published on July 25, Chino XL made it known in the beginning of June that he would be appearing as a special guest feature.
