Jennifer Lopez appears prepared to move on following her divorce filing from Ben Affleck.
A source close to the 55-year-old Atlas actress reports that she is “coping as best as she can” almost a week after submitting the divorce papers on August 20, the second anniversary of their wedding celebration in Georgia.
The source reveals, “It’s been incredibly tough for her that Ben chose to distance himself from their marriage and move on with his life, leaving her behind. She didn’t want a divorce; she wanted to work things out. They have strong feelings for each other, and Jennifer isn’t one to give up easily. Waiting around has been almost torturous for her.”
The source adds, “After filing for divorce, she seems relieved.”
“Her family and friends agree it was the right choice,” the source continues. “She’s surrounded by a lot of love and support. She’ll be okay. She’s strong and always manages to come out on top.”
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, in the Los Angeles County Superior Court without the assistance of an attorney.
Following the announcement of Lopez’s divorce filing, a source revealed that she “put in a lot of effort to make things work and is heartbroken.”
The actress and singer’s choice to file her divorce paperwork without a lawyer is both unconventional and suggests she “just wanted to get this done” and move on, according to a legal expert who spoke .
Marilyn Chinitz, a matrimonial partner at Blank Rome LLP who is not involved in the case, commented on Lopez filing pro se, “I think she most likely wanted to finalize this quickly. There was a lot of hesitation and back-and-forth, and it’s a statement: ‘I’m moving forward, I’m filing, and I’m doing it on my own.’”
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in April 2021, years after their initial relationship and engagement, which included a postponed wedding in September 2003 and their eventual split in January 2004.
