He is Shawn Mendes (born Shawn Peter Raul Mendes on August 8th, 1998). He established a following in 2013, recording song covers on the video-sharing program Vine. Andrew Gertler and Ziggy Charlton, the head of Island Records A&R, noticed him in the following year and signed him to the label.
2014 saw the release of his self-titled EP, followed by Handwritten in 2015. One of just five artists ever to debut at number one in the US Billboard 200 before the age of 18 is Mendes. The single “Stitches” achieved number one in the UK and the top 10 in the US and Canada.
“Treat You Better” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” from his second studio album Illuminate (2016) both reached the top 10 in numerous countries. His self-titled third studio album (2018) was supported by the lead single “In My Blood”.
After debuting at number one in the United States, Shawn Mendes became the third-youngest artist in history to have three consecutively chart-topping studio albums.
In 2019, he recorded the smash singles “If I Can’t Have You” and “Señorita”, with the latter peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100. His fourth studio album, Wonder (2020), made Mendes the youngest male artist ever to top the Billboard 200 with four studio albums.
Early Life and Schooling
Sean Mendez’s parents, real estate salesperson Karen Mendes (née Rayment) and businessman Manuel Mendes (who sells bar and restaurant supplies in Toronto), raised him in Pickering, Ontario.
His father is from Algarve, Portugal, while his mother is from England. He has a younger sister named Aaliyah. He grew up in a pious home. Pickering FC was his high school soccer team.
At Pine Ridge Secondary School in June 2016, Mendes was a member of the high school glee club and took acting lessons to improve his stage presence (leading as Prince Charming at one point). In Toronto, he also tried out for Disney Channel.
A song on his third studio album, “In My Blood,” features Mendes disclosing that he suffers from anxiety. According to his statement, he has been receiving counseling to assist him to deal with his mental health issue.
I had a few sessions with a therapist… In the end, therapy is what you need. Listening to music and running on the treadmill, going out to dinner with your friends, or just going for a walk are all examples of therapeutic activities.
I made a conscious effort to engage more with the people that matter most to me.” When I realized that the only way I could defeat it was by opening myself up to others, I stopped trying to keep myself closed off to the world in the hopes that it would benefit me.
Mendes plans to move into a central Toronto condo in 2021.
Mendes responded to rumors regarding his sexual orientation by saying, “First and foremost, I’m straight. Second, whether or not I was should have no bearing on the situation. The music, not my sexuality, should be the focus.”
In July 2019, Mendes started dating Camila Cabello, a Cuban-American singer. Their relationship created controversy, as both were accused of seeking to form a relationship for attention, although Mendes said it was “absolutely not a publicity gimmick”. In November of 2021, the pair made an official announcement of their decision to divorce.
Is Shawn Mendes Really Gay?
He had a “gay man vibe” that his followers noticed in 2016, and it was enough to break his back. To respond to the incident, he created a Snapchat story, saying, “First of all, I’m not gay. The second thing to consider is that it doesn’t matter if I am or am not present. Music, not my sexuality, should be the center of attention.
He is still seeing a therapist to help him cope with his anxiety now. I thought, ‘You guys are so happy I’m not gay and frightened of coming out,'” he said in an interview with Rolling Stone. That is a deadly substance. Because of its sensitivity.”
Please tell me if the songs are something you enjoy.” If so, how much? Does it matter that I am gay? Mendes made the comment.
Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello’s Relationship
Moreover, the fact that he had a past relationship with Camilla Cabello eludes many of his skeptics.
It was only in 2019 that the song “Senorita” elevated the couple to worldwide popularity, although many fans still question the reality of their relationship. According to one theory, the friendship between Mendes and Cabello is solely for the purpose of promoting their joint single.
Even so, Shawn Mendes insists that they are not just dating for the sake of the spotlight, telling Shepard that he felt “fortunate” to be dating Camila Cabello. Mendes’ songs for his fiancée are then explained, while Cabello’s posts about Mendes are accompanied with heartfelt remarks. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the pair lived together.
