Jordan was born on April 29, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tennessee as Leslie Allen Jordan. His first on-screen appearance was in ABC’s The Fall Guy in 1986. Jordan went on to star in shows such as Murphy Brown, Will & Grace, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Star Trek: Voyager, Caroline in the City, Pee-Playhouse, Wee’s Reba, Boston Public, Boston Legal, Nash Bridges, American Horror Story, and Hearts Afire.

He is arguably best known for his portrayal of Beverly Leslie on NBC’s Will & Grace, where he played Karen Walker’s snobbish, sexually ambiguous adversary. At the 2006 Primetime Emmy Awards, he received an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on the show.

How Did Leslie Jordan Die?

Jordan died early on Monday, October 24, 2022, in Los Angeles. He had lived for 67 years. At the time, TMZ said that Jordan died after he may have had a medical emergency while driving to film scenes for FOX’s Call Me Kat and crashed his BMW into the side of a building at Cahuenga Boulevard and Romaine Street in Hollywood.

TMZ also said that the Call Me Kat crew got worried when Jordan didn’t show up more than an hour after his call time. That’s when they found out he had died in a car crash. TMZ also posted a picture of the crash scene, which showed a white tent, yellow caution tape, and Jordan’s car smashed into the side of a white building with tall glass windows. People heard from the Los Angeles Police Department that the accident took place around 9:30 a.m. PT.

Early Life and Education

Jordan was born on April 29, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and reared there. He received his diploma from Brainerd High School. Jordan described his mother, Peggy Ann Jordan (née Griffin; 1935-2022), as welcoming and helpful, although never completely understanding him.

Allen Bernard Jordan, Jordan’s father, was a major in the United States Army Reserve when he died, along with two others, in the accident of a civilian Beechcraft Debonair plane at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, on March 31, 1967, when Jordan was about 12 years old.

Jordan relocated to Los Angeles in 1982 and became engaged in drugs and alcohol, as well as being arrested multiple times. He began journaling on a daily basis, which aided his recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. Jordan told Wendy Williams, a talk show host, in 2010 that he had been sober for 13 years.

In the same appearance, Jordan revealed that before quitting drinking, he shared a cell with Robert Downey Jr. and that when they both appeared later on Ally McBeal, Downey couldn’t exactly identify where they had met previously.

A unique talent with an enormous, caring heart. You will be missed, my dear friend. George Takei also tweeted: “I am stunned at the death of Leslie Jordan, who delighted us with his many roles on television and film. The cause of death was a car crash after he suffered a medical emergency.
