Johnny Depp could return to the Pirates of the Caribbean, which is probably not something you had on your 2023 bingo card.
One of the franchise’s producers, Jerry Bruckheimer, said he would “love” to see Depp return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the sixth movie in the series.
When asked about the Disney series on the Oscars red carpet, Bruckheimer told Entertainment Tonight, “We’re all working on it.
We’ll see what happens. We’re very excited, and I think we’ll have a great screenplay when we’re done, which will be soon.
When asked if Depp would play the role again, he said, “We’ll see.” I’d really like it. All I can say is that I would love for him to be in the movie.”
Johnny Depp May Return to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” Franchise!
Fans and Depp himself might be surprised by the news since he spent most of last year in court fighting libel with his ex-wife Amber Heard.
As part of the trial, Depp and his agent said that Heard’s claims of domestic abuse were the reason why Depp was dropped from the movie series and lost $22.5 million.
Heard wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Post in 2018 in which she said she had been a victim of sexual and physical violence, but she didn’t name Depp by name.
This led to the court case. During the libel trial, which was shown online, both sides said that the other had hurt them.
In three cases of defamation, the jury found Heard to be at fault and gave Depp $10 million in damages and $5 million in punitive damages, which were later reduced to $350,000.
But Heard was given $2 million in damages because she argued that Depp’s lawyer had written false and defamatory things about her in the Daily Mail, and she was right.
In the end, the cases were settled by Heard giving Depp $1 million, which Depp said he would give to charity. The source first said that Depp might be coming back to POTC at the end of last year.
An insider saw his name on a call sheet for a test shoot for the movie in February 2023: “Johnny is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow and is scheduled to start filming at the beginning of February at a top-secret location in the UK.”
