Early Life and Education
Michael David Faist was adopted by his parents, Julia and Kurt Faist, and was born on January 5, 1992, in Gahanna, Ohio. The household runs a real estate company. Faist made the decision to pursue a career in the performing arts as a child.
After viewing Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire in vintage MGM movies, particularly Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain, he was drawn to dancing. He was able to tell a tale through movement simply by the way he performed and moved, according to Faist.
At age 5, he persuaded his parents to sign him up for dance lessons and started putting himself forward for roles in children’s and community theatre. He portrayed a member of the Lollipop Guild in a Columbus Children’s Theatre production of The Wizard of Oz before joining the Oliver! and Alice in Wonderland casts.
Faist fell in love with acting while studying at The Academy of Performing Arts (TAPA) company in Columbus, Ohio. He continued acting while attending Gahanna Lincoln High School, playing roles such as Simon in Jesus Christ Superstar and Danny Zuko in Grease.
Faist first met his birth mother and her family, who are primarily pilots by profession, when he was 17 years old. He learned how to fly from the older of his two half-brothers. Since that time, Faist has earned his pilot’s license.
He moved to New York in 2009 after finishing high school in order to pursue a career in theatre. After two semesters, he left the American Musical and Dramatic Academy where he had been enrolled.
He started selling tickets in Times Square while attending Off-Broadway play auditions. He was living at the back of a McDonald’s parking lot, receiving food stamps, and making $150 per week while working his first professional acting gig in the play White Christmas.
