Rumors are circulating that Rockstar is working on Red Dead Redemption 3, the latest in its line of old west-themed shoot-’em-ups, but many fans are wary of the sequence of leaks on the reportedly imminent game, and for good reason.
At the time of writing, the most current source of leaks appears to be MyTimeToShineHello on X. Her announcement reveals very little, only noting that “Red Dead Redemption 3 is officially in the works!”
She is known for leaking information about movies rather than video games, including supposedly exposing the narrative of Spider-Man No Way Home before its theatrical release.
This news comes just two days after GAMINGbible reported a similar story, citing Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick’s statement at the Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference in November 2021 that both the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series “can live on permanently through broader industry changes and technological advancements,” according to VGC.
However, the absence of more information is making many RDR fans suspicious, since even those who think the third episode is in the works do not expect to see it anytime soon.
On Reddit, member Red Ocean 7 sought to refute the claims by pointing out the tenuous thread link. “[Zelnick] basically just said the door is open to another sequel, but we don’t know anything beyond that,” they explained.
“I’m not sure who this is, but she’s probably just piggybacking on yesterday morning’s speculation.” Or, he truly believes that what Zelnick stated is ‘official’ confirmation of anything, which it isn’t, except that another game is conceivable.”
Others who are more receptive to the notion of a Red Dead Redemption 3 being in production still don’t expect to see anything for some years, with estimations ranging from 2030 to 2035.
The fact that Rockstar, the Take Two subsidiary responsible for developing and producing both RDR and GTA games, is still only potentially teasing Grand Theft Auto 6 without an official announcement, despite a major leak of gameplay and coding assets that appear to be connected to a GTA sequel nearly a year ago, is driving this.
This is in addition to the time it takes to design a game. The first Red Dead Redemption was launched in May 2010, with the sequel following in October 2018.
The same X account claimed on Saturday that “a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is in the works,” but no other information was provided, like with the RDR# leak. Stay tuned with Crossover99 for more Gaming Updates and News.
