Mauga, a new tank hero, was added to the Overwatch 2 roster in the eighth season of the game. At this point in season 9, all players can unlock the character. Previously, you had to grind through the battle pass of the game or buy Overwatch Coins to unlock the character. Fortunately, there is now a much simpler way to unlock the character. Here’s how to get Overwatch 2’s new tank, Mauga, unlocked.
How to Unlock Mauga in Overwatch 2?
A series of new Hero Challenges have to be completed in order to unlock Mauga.
- Wins for Mauga: Finish the 50 games that are queued up in Quick Play, Competitive Play, or No Limits as All Roles or Tank. Success doubles your progress.
- Practice Cardiac Overdrive: In the Practice Range, use Cardiac Overdrive to heal yourself or your allies for 75 damage.
- Practice Volatile Chaingun:In the practice range, deal 100 critical (headshot) damage to ignited bots with Volatile Chaingun.
- Practice Berserker:In the Practice Range, deal critical (headshot) damage to Berserker to gain 150 temporary health.
- Practice Incendiary Chaingun:In the practice range, Ignite 2 bots using Incendiary Chaingun.
- Practice Cage Fight: Take down two robots in the practice range’s cage fight.
- Practice Overrun:Use Overrun in Practice Range to land directly on a bot to take them out.

The “Practice X” challenges are very easy to finish and self-explanatory, but the “Wins for Mauga” challenge requires several play sessions. Remember that you can try the flexible “All Roles” queue to keep things interesting and varied even if you aren’t a big tank player.
However, go to the main menu and choose “Challenges” before attempting these challenges. Click the “Hero” tab and choose Mauga. To initiate challenges, press the button once you’re on this screen. To ensure that your progress is monitored, make sure to accomplish this before finishing the challenges.
As an alternative, Mauga and his starter pack are available for purchase in the store. However, given how simple the challenges are, we strongly advise finishing those first.
