At the beginning of the chapter, Aki thinks back to her first day at Hokuchi University. As soon as she walks into the University, two boys come up to her and invite her to their Jinpa party. Aki knows that they are trying to hit on her, so she turns down their approaches right away because Makabe is more important to her than any party.
Aki tells those boys that she has a boyfriend, but they think it’s funny and say that long-distance relationships don’t last. They start to talk about how Aki is going to break up soon because men can do whatever they want in long-distance relationships.
Aki sighs at their stupid bias because she thinks Makabe is different and they don’t understand that. After that day, Makabe and Aki often talked to each other and spent their summer vacations together. Now, two years later, Makabe forgot that it was their second anniversary, so he promised to talk to Aki overnight.
Aki lies down on her bed and waits for Makabe to call her. He hasn’t picked up any of her calls for a while, so she starts to wonder if he will keep his word. In the meantime, Makabe hasn’t answered Aki’s call because he’s trying to help Iroha. She did get sick after being fired, after all.
